Q: A
group of us would like to do a "money tree" for a baby shower
gift instead of giving a gift certificate to one store - any suggestions
on how to do this for a baby shower? Thank you
- Linda
I've been
thinking about this and it has proved to be quite a challenging question.
The "wedding money trees" that you see sometimes enclose the
money inside of something. For example, birdcages are used a lot for
weddings. But, I couldn't really find anything similar out there for
a baby shower. Here are my ideas:
1. Use a piggy bank as the center of the "money tree". It
is a cute way to present the money to the mom, a nice gift for baby,
and keeps with a "baby" theme.
2. Make
a "treasure chest" for the baby. Go to your local craft store
and purchase a small - medium wood box that has a hinged lid on it.
Sand it down. Line the inside with red felt and paint the outside with
whatever color you would like. You can even stencil on some images (fish,
bears, blocks, etc..). I made one of these for my nephew with sea blue
and fish on it - the parents loved it! I wrote "Benjamin's treasures",
but you could write "Baby's treasures". Make sure you seal
the paint with a finishing spray. On the very bottom I wrote this saying:
"Treasure your friends, Treasure your health, Treasure your family,
Treasure yourself. With these, all of the worlds treasures are yours!"
Place the date on it too. A great keepsake.
3. Use something babyish to hold the money: decorative hampers, hang
clothespins from an umbrella (for a "shower") and clip the
money to it, string a clothesline across the room, hang cute baby clothes,
and ask guests to put their money into the pockets/zippers, etc.. of
the clothing.
I hope that helps you out a bit. I researched the Internet for something
that you could buy, but unfortunately couldn't find anything specifically
for the money tree. So, those are my ideas and I hope you can use one
of them. Have a great party!
Take care,
Peggy
