Q: My daughter is having a baby in September, this however was a total shock, she and her husband had thought their family was complete. She has given away all her baby equipment. Is is appropriate to throw her a shower? This is her third child. Her other children are 4 and 3. - Gale

Peggy's Answer:

She definitely needs a baby shower if she has given away most or all of their baby equipment. Showers are meant to help the expectant parents prepare for the baby. Even if she had all of the baby equipment, she would still need new bottles, bibs, probably some onesies, pacifiers, etc.. - any disposable baby needs (diapers, wipes, creams, shampoo, lotions). With having two other children, it may be difficult financially to purchase everything they need.

So, please, please give her a baby shower. She needs it and its a way to celebrate her pregnancy with this child. Each pregnancy is just as special as the one prior. You go through the same aches and pains and feel the same loving movements and kicks of the baby as you did with the first, second and so on. There is no way you can go wrong giving her a party. Plus, its fun!

Take care,
Peggy
